The stool of Balogun Alanamu of Ilorin is one of the two Baloguns, which represents the interest of Yoruba stock of Ilorin Emirate. The history of the title goes back to the early 19″ century and to a warrior known as Seeni. History has it that Seení migrated from Kuwo to llorin along with Shehu Alimi. Getting to Ilorin, Mallam Se’eni established his settlement in the area later named Alanamu. Se’eni was a commander of the Alanamu troops in the llorin Army that successfully repelled the invasion of Nupe in the early 19th century. Among other prominent holders of the Balogun Alanamu title was Yesufu (Yusuf) Ba’ale. He was among the gallant warriors involved in the Worukura war. Also, this prominent institution of Alanamu produced one of the greatest war-lords in history of the Emirate, namely Balogun Aliyu, who was popularly called “Inakoju.” He was among the major heroes of Offa war and the Balogun Agba of Ilorin as at the time the Emirate fell to the British conquest in 1897.
Dr. Usman Abubakar Jos is a Lecturer at University of Ilorin before his appointment as, The current Balogun Alanamu. Dr. Usman Abubakar Jos, apart from being the Balogun Alanamu, is also a prominent member of the Council of Kingmakers in the Emirate and also a principal chief of the Emir. He was turbaned as the Balogun Alanamu of Ilorin on Friday May 6th, 2022. Below are the names of the Balogun Alanamu since inception:
