Coincidentally, the current Balogun Gambari, Alhaji Muhammad A. Adebayo, is the Balogun Agba (the most Senior War-Lord) of the Ilorin Emirate.

By virtue of this, the incumbent Balogun Gambari is also the most senior traditional chief in the Ilorin Emirate. He is among the seven members of the Council of Kingmakers. Historically, the military success and invincibility of the Ilorin emirate owe a lot to the military greatness of his illustrious predecessors. History will forever remember the indelible roles of Balogun Dose, Ali Maiyaki, Abubakar, a.k.a Ka’ara, and Adamu Kaseta, among others, in the various wars for survival and expansion of the emirate during the 19^th century. So far, the following had held the office at one time or the other:
