Magaji ngeri

The Magaji ngeri is an important traditional title in the administration of Ilorin Emirate. Muhammadu Wawu, the progenitor of the Magaji ngeri dynasty, was a member of the original retinue with which Shehu Alimi came to llorin. Magaji ngeri is fondly called “Abokin Sarki” He was made the Administrator of the city, a position that was formalized by Emir Abdul-Salam. The formalization of the Magaji ngeri title was done through the appointment and turbaning of Sadiq, son of Wawu, as the first Magaji ngeri of Ilorin. By tradition, Magaji ngeri has the responsibility of supporting the Emir in the administration of the city, especially when the Emir is out of the city. Under the traditional system, Magaji ngeri is the City Mayor of Ilorin metropolis and even the Emir’s palace is placed under him. Alhaji Muhammad Jamiu Adebayo is the 9 and current Magajin Gari of Ilorin, an high-ranking aide and Principal Chief of the Emir. The Magajin Gari is a member of the Council of Kingmakers of Ilorin Emirate. He is also the Head of the Magajin Gari Ward. Born in 1942, Alhaji Adebayo had his education at the famous Ansarul Islam LGEA School, Ilorin. He was also educated at United LGEA School, Ilorin and Bida Training College, Bida.

He also under-went training at the University of Ilorin, llorin; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; and the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin. Alhaji Adebayo, by choice and destiny, is a successful teacher and has served the Ilorin Emirate community creditably in his chosen career and in other capacities. He taught at several schools, which makes him a teacher to countless number of educated people both within and outside Ilorin Emirate. Some of the schools where he taught are: United LGEA, School, Oke-Suna, LGEA School, Ojagboro LGEA School, Ilorin, Shuban LGEA School, Adeta LGEA School, Pakata LGEA School, all in Ilorin, among others.

Apart from the above, Alhaji Adebayo, has also held several other administrative posts too numerous to be exhausted here. Some of these are: Member, Executive Council, NUT; 1st Auditor, Executive Council, NUT; Secretary-General, Conference of Headmasters of Primary Schools in Nigeria; Chairman, Education Committee for the Magajin Gari Ward Development Association, among others.
