Sarkin Gambari was the leader of the non-Yoruba community area later named Gambari. Thus, making the Sarkin Gambari one of the oldest chieftaincy titles in Ilorin. The founder, Ibrahim Bako was said to be of royal background from Zamfara. Ibrahim Bako was a contemporary of Aare Afonja, Alfa Solagberu and Olufadi whose presence in Ilorin predated the arrival of Shehu Alimi. Bako, as was popularly called came to Ilorin with his ancestral royal drum and Trumpet (Kakaki and Tambari). He assumed the leadership of the community. The leadership style of Bako helped the expansion of the community which changed the community from predominantly Hausa community to multi-ethnic community of Nupe, Kanuri, Gobiri, Gwari among others. The emergence of emirate system in Ilorin which brought structural adjustment to the administrative structure of Ilorin did not left Sarkin Gambari out. Today, Sarkin Gambari is the head of Iporin.
